Story: An innocent camping trip takes a dark turn for a young brother and sister, when they witness a murder. The young siblings become the killers' next target as they are chased and hunted through the wilderness. Serving time over a protest gone terribly wrong, their father, Jack Damson (Fraser), devises a plan to break out of prison and rescue his kids from the pair of criminals, Tommy (Purcell) and Kenny (Suplee). The environmentalist Jack Damson (Brendan Fraser) accidentally kills aman during a protest in the woods and is imprisoned. Years later, hisformer wife and lawyer Maria (Amy Price-Francis) now is living withtheir daughter Jenny (Holly Deveaux) and their son Mikey (ChristianMartyn) with Jack's friend Chuck (Daniel Kash). Chuck invites Jenny andMikey to go camping in the woods.

Meanwhile the psychopath Tommy Baxter (Dominic Purcell) travels withhis retarded brother Kenny (Ethan Suplee) to a cabin in the same forestand Tommy kills the owner. However Jenny and Mikey witness the murderand Tommy hunts them. Jenny loses her cellular and Kenny calls Mariabelieving that she is his mother. Maria tells Jack what is happeningand he breaks out of prison to rescue the siblings from the criminals.Will Jack succeed in his intent?

"Breakout" is an awful thriller with a lame and stupid story full ofclichés and terrible screenplay. There are many so many holes andstupid situations that it is difficult to list all of them. Forexample: (a) Jenny and Mikey sleep in the woods like angels while thepsychopath is chasing them. (b) Everybody is stranded in the same pointof the woods. (c) Jack easily finds Chuck and instead of the woundedguy drives his car out of the forest to call the police, he walks withJack without a gun and slowing down his friend. (d) Jack easily findshis kids since he knows the forest, but he never brings them back toMaria's car. (e) Tommy misses all his shots except the one that killsthe ranger. (f) Jack stabs Tommy on his hand but he never throws awaythe rifle in the river or brings the weapon with him. (g) Maria hassuccessive contacts with Kenny, but she never goes to the police toreport exactly what is happening in the woods. (h) The environmentalproblem is just a pretext to put Jack in prison and is totallyforgotten. My vote is two.

Stupid goofs and situations, there are too many to list. This is a goodexample of an extreme waste of production funds. Since the directorwrote it he clearly was blind to the numerous mistakes and nonsensesituations. The bad guy is the worst shot on the planet. And the goodguy kept shooting at a distant target with a sawed off shotgun. Thetopper was when the good guy fights with the bad guy and does not takehis rifle from him and then runs away to continue the chase. I thinkthe actors are not to blame as much as the director and writer. I thinkif the people responsible for this movie every want to work again theyare going to have to change their names.
